Now's the Time
WOW! More time has flown by. Hopefully, nobody’s out there holding their breath for news! If you are, BREATHE NOW!!
Things are great! I just finished my first semester at Talbot! I’ve almost completed the provisional period at my new job (it’s come so fast!). I’m very happy where I’m living! Things are looking, overall, very well!
I recently completed 7 Habits of Highly Effective People at my office. I was, at first annoyed by the fact that a Christian organization would promote and advance a Mormon businessman, however, I have come to think differently. I am still bothered at how the leadership tried to apply Scripture after-the-fact to the principles in the program, but for the purpose of living a more organized/effective life, I’d say the point is well taken. I can’t live in crisis response anymore, I have tried for too long and I’m so tired... To be proactive, the first point of living more effectively, is really important. I’m finding that I don’t even hear the alarm clock anymore because I’m so tired. I still want to run and do the many things I’ve committed myself to doing, but I simply can’t without rest! Learning to put things in order and to work in ADVANCE is the only way to make this happen! So, I feel much more relaxed now that I’ve made lists (ah, lists!) and planned out my week. It is a bummer that a Christian company would so heavily support a Mormon, but the material isn’t presenting anything Mormon. A very good question to ask ourselves as Christians is: What positive contributions are we making in the lives of others? Whether that’s explaining God’s love to someone or helping them deal with life’s challenges, it’s a worth our efforts and time.
By way of application: One of the things I have become much more aware of is distractions. The one distraction that I have to be careful of is the puzzle my landlady made available. She found out that I love puzzles and put one on the table (her daughter and I speculate that she did this really to just keep us around). Dangerous!
Speaking of Mormons, Will and I had a very lively conversation with Mormon missionaries last Sunday and are eagerly waiting for our follow up visit on Sunday! I have a number of things I would like to discuss with them, but as usual, these guys are professionals at running rabbit trails! We’ll see how it goes….
I’m still running! I just finished a 2 mile run in training for a 6 miler on Sunday (before the missionaries arrive). I forgot my make-up at home, so my face was very red and I used the gym at work! Oh, well, lesson learned.
The next on the agenda is Israel. Will, me and the rest of the students from Talbot enrolled in the class are leaving on the 27th, returning on the 19th of January. I’m excited and eager to see these places that I’ve heard so much about. I’m also excited because the Lord is answering my prayers in even small ways. I asked that He would give me a certain person (since I’ve heard so much about her – not that I’ll ignore the rest of the people, mind you!) as a roommate and He did! How cool! He’s been giving me little bonuses all over the place. And I’ve been growing closer to Him through regular study of the Word and prayer. He’s good! And I’m so blessed!
Cool stories:
A couple of weeks ago, the high school ministry Will and I participate in prepared to take a trip to visit the homeless in Hollywood. The students had asked their friends, families and neighbors if they had any blankets or jackets to donate. When we arrived, we had so many things to pass out, including care packages (containing hand wipes, socks, etc.), what a blessing! While we were in Hollywood passing out literature and inviting people on the street to church, Will and I were paired together with two high schoolers. They began talking to a guy who was panhandling and since it was evident that he had spoken to someone from our group prior to our arrival, Will asked him if he was planning on going to the service. The homeless man replied that he had no watch to tell him what time it was and asked how much time he had until it started. Will undid the Velcro on his watch and handed it to him. The man starred in amazement. He was so blessed!
On the same day, we were walking along and the high schoolers and I started to talk to a Marine recruiter on the side of the road. He said he used to go to church with his grandmother and he remembered her passion for the Lord very fondly. He was on his way to an appointment, but we were able to engage him in a 45 minute conversation about God and His love. We could see that he was seriously considering coming to church and rededicating his life. I felt the burden in his heart and I believe that our conversation led him to return to God.
I love street evangelism! And it was wonderful to be a part of such a dynamic group of people who wanted to proclaim His name, not only at home, but in the streets of Hollywood!
Signing off. =)
